Questions –

1. When did you realize that you wanted to be an author?

Well, I’ve always had the dream of writing a book. I used to fill notebooks upon notebooks with poetry, short stories, and lines when I was a teenager. I guess writing was always a must for me; I need it to breathe. It wasn’t until two years ago that I started to believe the dream could be a reality.

2. How long does it take for you to write one of your books?

Pressing Flowers took me two years because I was pregnant and had a baby during the writing process. I took my time on the project because I wanted to get it just right to show the world. Any other book I’ve penned for my own enjoyment has taken me six months or less.

3. How do you balance your work schedule when you’re busy writing?

First and foremost, I’m a stay-at-home mom, so I never leave my work,  and my kids always come first. Sometimes, I make a plan for someone to be with them so I can squeeze in uninterrupted time. But usually, you can find me up early in the morning typing before the kids wake up, or stealing nap time for myself, or even staying up late after they’ve gone to sleep.

4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I usually have the dialogue of the characters playing out in my mind while I put on makeup for the day or when I’m getting ready for bed at night. It’s always in front of the mirror because I gauge my facial expressions as the words play in my head.

5. How do you come up with ideas for your books?

How do I not? Every opportunity throughout the day is a chance at a story. I get ideas when I’m laying in bed about to fall asleep, and I have to sit up and write them down in my phone. Music is huge for me. I love it for everything, and a good song can evoke a feeling inside you that starts the wheels of a good story. Art. The idea for Pressing Flowers came from a photograph I picked up at an Arts & Crafts Festival.

6. When did you write your first book?

I’ve written many books, Pressing Flowers is the first I’ve published, but I can’t put the finger on the age I was when the first one was created.

7. What are your hobbies when you’re not writing?

Reading, obviously. Crocheting has become a hobby for me in the past year. I love it; getting to see something come to life from just yarn is gratifying.

8. What does your family and close friends think of your writing?

I’m blessed with a very supportive group surrounding me. They are all proud and impressed by the book.

9. What was one of the most interesting things that you learned about yourself when you published your first book?

Self-publishing has been frustrating at times and confusing, but the most significant take away from it was the belief I found in myself. With every stumbling block or hurdle that I came to, I kept pushing through believing in my story and my writing. Instead of quitting because it is scary, I shoved myself out there in front of the world.

10. How many books have you written? Which one is your favorite?

Many. Pressing Flowers is my favorite, and that’s why I chose to publish it. The ideas for the story flowed out of me so organically that they became a part of my everyday life. It’s odd right now without Miriam, Oliver, and Charlotte in my head.

11. What do you think makes a good story?

Hands down it has to stir your emotions. I love a story that takes a piece of my soul with it.

12. Where do you like to kick back and write your books?

I have a large comfy 1 1/2 chair. It has the softest worn brown leather upholstery, and you sink into the back cushion until it nestles you. Heaven.
